The Brown Banded Cockroach is often confused with the German Roach , but it's habits
are different.
They are often brought in dwellings in furniture.
Commonly
found in the southern states, but may be found in warmer parts of buildings
in the northern states.
Brown Banded Cockroach Appearance:
They are light brown, about 1/2 inch long.
They have two light, irregular
bands along their wings.
The German Roach has two dark, distinctive bands
behind their heads.
Brown Banded Roach Diet:
They prefer starchy materials, but being scavengers will
eat almost anything.
Habits and Biology of Brown Banded Cockroaches:
The female will only carry the egg capsule for one or two
days, then attach it to a protected surface. Each capsule contains 14-18
eggs, the young reach maturity in about 160 days. You can find these light
brown egg capsules usually under or to the sides of a surface, well protected.
They don't require the same moisture
resources as the German Roach,so they are commonly found in furniture,or
on the walls and ceilings.
They are not as commonly found in they kitchen and bathrooms, as the German Roach, but can be found near refrigerator motors and other major appliances.
Also look behind pictures and in closets.
They are rarely seen during the day and may fly.
They prefer dry and warm places and may be scattered throughout the building.
Recommendations for Brown Banded Roach Control:
As with the German Roach a good quality roach bait would
be recommended for the Brown Banded Cockroach. You may also want to add
to the treatment with an aerosol first.
Follow the same recommended guidelines as the
German Roach, but application would most likely not be restricted
to mainly kitchens and bathrooms.
A thorough inspection would be
required,as they are not restricted to moisture needs in the kitchens
and bathrooms.
The Brown Banded and the German Roach are the most challenging of roaches to manage and eliminate.
To accurately and completely eliminate these roaches you need to attack
them from several tools using baits,
dusts, growth regulators and pheromone traps.
The technology of the pest control market has switched to an integrated
pest management like baiting
,dusting, and the use of insect growth regulators and pheromone traps
against the German or Brown Banded roach, as opposed to just using a residual or contact
insecticide either in an aerosol form or liquid form.
However in restaurants, you may have to still
spray with a residual insecticide such as Orthene
instead of baits.
We encourage you to call us for recommendations, in that we have
had a long history of helping restaurants solve their problem, but needs
to be handled on a individual basis.
The products we recommend have not had a resistant problem.
Recommended Products: Baits, Aerosols, Insect Growth Regulators(IGR'S)
and Roach Traps
1. COCKROACH BAITS: MAXFORCE ROACH BAIT GEL AND MAXFORCE ROACH
BAIT STATIONS
MAXFORCE
ROACH GEL has been proven very effective against the German Roach
and Brown Banded Roach. This is one of the very best professional
roach baits on the market.
This bait comes in two forms:
A.Fipronil-FC
B.Hydramethlynon
major differences between Fipronil and Hydramethylnon
The application is very simple and easy, coming in a syring. The
gel formulation enables you to place the material into cracks and
crevices and harboraging places.
Before treating any areas it is best to first take
a flashlight and check these types of areas for nesting sites. You will
be looking for their excrement droppings(looks like black pepper).
You may also want to use a aerosol with pryethrin like
CB-80
, or
V One Pyrethrum Aerosol sprayed to "flush-out" roaches out of these harboraging places
.
These pyrethin areosols will kill on contact, and serve you to find
out where the German Cockroaches or Brown Banded Cockroaches are nesting.
Once you have determined where the roaches are nesting, it may be easier
to know where to apply the Max Force gel bait.
Maxforce Bait Placements:
- Behind kitchen cabinets and counter tops.
- Behind anything hanging on the wall, such as pictures, clocks, posters,
etc.
- Behind, next to, and under the stove.
- In the corners up under the sink and other cabinets.
- In stored paper bags and boxes.
- Around pipes, cords, and cables that come out of the wall.
- Behind and under bathroom fixtures.
- Behind the medicine cabinet and vanity.
- In any cracks or crevices around shelves or wood trim.
Each roach feeding on Maxforce Roach Gel will kill up to 40 other roaches
via droppings and dead bodies.
Roaches are cannibalistic and will eat other dead or dying roaches.
The roaches are not social insects like ants and termites, they do not
carry the bait back to feed the young.
When baiting is important to re- bait in the areas where the the
roaches are taking the bait. Paying attention to this will speed
up the process.
- Maxforce
Roach Bait Stations are also useful as a roach bait. The use of
the roach stations are slower acting than the gel form, but will last
for several months without drying out.
2. Insect Growth Regulators for Cockroaches
Using insect growth regulators like
Gentrol Aerosol breaks the cycle.
It attacks the male nymph roach(mutating reproductive abilities) and causes
the pregnant female to consume the bait when she would normally not want
to consume food during part of her pregnancy. We carry Gentrol in the
aerosol form,
Gentrol
liquid form,and Gentrol
point source form.
Cockroach Traps

Another important tool, would be the use of roach traps with a pheremone
to lure them inside the trap: Victor
Pheromone Roach Trap is and excellent roach trap.
These traps are excellent for monitoring tools as well.
4. Other Aerosols and "Bombs" to Kill Cockroaches
- Use a residual insecticide aerosol like
Crack & Crevice II Propoxur Aerosol if you need a sliqhtly quicker start before killing the entire roach population with Maxforce Roach Bait.
However the Maxforce Roach Bait is so effective ,many find they don't need to use such an aerosol.
When using this residual insecticide
(Propoxur Aerosol), don't place the bait out yet, because it would
contaminate it.....wait about 10 days.
Invader contains baygon.
-
First we recommend using Crack and Crevide II Propoxur Aerosol in all the cracks
and crevices as well as behind cabinets, under refrigerators, behind
stoves, ovens and dishwashers, if needed for a "quick knock down".
At this point you can use insect growth inhibitors such as
the Gentrol Aerosol, Gentrol Liquid or Gentrol Point Sources,
treating area and the cracks and crevices without contamination.
-
Wait 10-14 days ,then apply Maxforce Roach Bait Gel in numerous
small bait placements in cracks and crevices in cabinets and drawers,
also place behind the cabinets, under refrigerators, behind stoves,
ovens, and dishwashers.
The Invader Aerosol
is intended for a quick knockdown when there is a need to cut out
a percentage of the population immediately, the Maxforce Roach Bait Gel
is intended to really cut into the population over the
following two weeks, with the Gentrol Insect Growth Regulator helping
the baiting and breaking into the cycle.
We also carry other insecticides,
baits, and dust not listed here
We have combined many of these products inside kits, saving you money.
You can find this at:

German Roach Kits
Aerosol "bombs" such as V CLEAR OUT so commonly referred to are actually total release
aerosol cans.
They are very popular because they are perhaps the easiest way to kill
exposed roaches without much effort, just push the button and leave the
premises for a couple of hours.
Unfortunately, "bombs" do not contact many roaches that are
well hidden and they have no residual killing power.
